Sam Cummings life story readslike a fairy tale except it s all true This guy was a consummate businessman and a genius at marketing I thoroughly enjoyed the whole book.
Describes Sam Cummings Founding And Development Of The Munitions Company, Interarms, And Examines Its Position In The International Arms Trade As a follower of WWI and WWII firearms from other countries I ve been curious as to how the importation business works as well as the arms industry in general As Sam Cummings owned probably the biggest firm in this industry a book about his company is a must read I enjoyed every page.
The men with the golden gunsBrogan, Patrick and Albert Zarca 1983 Deadly Business Sam Cummings, Interarms, and the Arms Trade W W Norton however, page 357 does mention gifts and souvenirs One notes with amusement Cummings insights into the psyche of dictators illustrated by the Freudian undertones of such gifts.
In all, this book is a most valuable resource for those who study the insurgencies of the last half of the twentieth century, and has so much has useful information, that these quibbles, while they should be noted, can be taken in stride.
When I first started reading this book, I thought it was going to be a hatchet job on Sam Cummings, Interarms, and the arms industry in general I was wrong, it is an attempt to provide a balanced almost journalistic accounting of San Cummings life and business The tone and style is a bit flat, which cost it a star The second star it lost is because the problem, for me personally, is it ends in 1983 The part of the Interarms story that interests me the most was from about the middle 80s until the company disbanded in the late 90s after Cummings death Unfortunately this book doesn t cover that time period But it s okay for what it does cover.
It answered a lot questions I had about the surplus arms trade in the 60s and 70s Now someone needs to write a new one about the 80s up.
