Best known as a Concorde pilot, John Hutchinson s life was filled with adventure From his childhood in India, to his early flying lessons, his brush with death in BOAC Flight 712, and his service as a Concorde pilot, as well as some other non flying related adventures, this book tells the story of a brave man who made a significant contribution to those whose lives crossed his during the second half of the 20th century It also offers an objective and unexpected insight into the causes of the only Concorde crash A decently written biography, whose only fault perhaps resides in the way the India of 1947 is portrayed, politically correct than factually accurate.
I bought this book having had the pleasure of meeting John and Sue Hutchinson on a cruise to Iceland They were the most interesting people, full of fascinating tales and I could not wait to read this biography I could not put it down When I had finished reading it I wanted to start all over again This is a wonderful book and I thoroughly recommend it.
I found this Concorde book fascinating about the life and career of my favourite Concorde pilot I felt as though l was on the flight deck with him Could not put book down A must read book for all lovers of Concorde and her pilots Very informative and entertaining.
T A brilliant book so very interesting which has prompted me to look into other means of finding out about the man himself through videos etc.
, He had a wonderful, somewhat charmed life, but along with the highs he and his wife also suffered some very low moments He comes across as a true gentleman, instantly likeable I am a terrible flyer full of fear and am always relieved when my feet are back on the ground However, with this man in charge of any aeroplane I was on, I would happily fly anywhere Extremely well written.
This has got to be one of the best books of all time, detailing the life of John Hutchinson and written by Susan Ottaway.
From his early flying days to flying Concorde It mentions many different aircraft he has flown in Some great stories, some great sadness along the way Some narrow escapesJohn Hutchinson, is my hero Great tales flying The VC10, and The Boeing 707, and many others Couldn t put the book down.
Well what can I say, this book had me hooked from the beginning From a very young age I ve always been in love with Concorde, and the fact that she was retired was an insult to everyone across both the UK and France But that aside, I ve always been keen on who has flown Concorde, pilots wise , so when I found out about Captain John Hutchinson s book, I grabbed a copy This is a brilliant book, well written and has had me both laughing and crying This is a great insight into the person, and his passion for Concorde I m not going to say any, just take my word for it, buy the book and read it, you ll see what I mean.
This was a real page turner for me, and what a fantastic and interesting life John has led There are some real moments of drama and sadness, but John and his wife Sue are an engaging focus throughout his story, and I really found myself becoming involved, and caring, about their lives.
As well as hearing John s informed opinion on the fateful Concorde, his story also takes us back to when India becomes independent, his training as a pilot in Canada and many other far flung adventures.
